BHR –V- INTERWOOD

Today’s game was always going to be a tight affair with Interwood having a reputation of being quite physical.  We started the game stronger and Rishi made it 1-0 after some good work from Ali in midfield. I was pleased with the way we dominated for long periods in the first half, and we were matching them as far as aggression was concerned. Unfortunately with a couple of minutes to go to half time a lack of communication and concentration between goal keeper and defence resulted in an own goal, as our defender and goal keeper got in each other’s way with our defender heading into an empty net.  We must learn to communicate.

The second half and both teams were working hard from the start and we were caught out with approximately ten minutes gone with another goal from Interwood. We created a few chances but unfortunately I believe our strikers forgot their shooting boots at home! In the last ten minutes I decided to try and force the win by playing three at the back and introducing a third striker. Our midfield continued to create, but as the game got stretched Interwood also had chances to score again. However, both defences held out and the game finished 2-1 to them.

I was pleased with our general play today, and if it weren’t for a couple of individual errors and the fact that our strikers were shot shy today, this game would have ended differently!  Some of our passing and movement in midfield was a joy to watch, and I strongly believe we’ll get them next time!
