ASHTON WEDNESDAY –v- BUSH HILL RANGERS

                       1                                                    21

  • Once again before kick off I knew my biggest headache was going to be making sure the boys kept their shape and discipline. As the game kicked off it didn’t take long for the game to be a one-sided affair and for the whole of the first half we were literally camped in Ashton Wednesday’s half. Their goal was being bombarded left, right and centre. Our shape soon disappeared and it was a bit of a ‘free for all’. Although we scored six goals, my frustration was clear to see, because just before half time, on the one occasion they broke, they were rewarded a penalty. Half time score 6-1 to Bush Hill.
  • At half time I read the boys the ‘riot act’. I was not happy with our lack of discipline and lack of team play. I warned them that if this didn’t change I would reduce our numbers for the second half to see what would happen.

I was pleased with the way the boys reacted in the second half.  We settled down, we played our football, we passed the ball, we were not getting caught off-side every 30 seconds and soon we started to take them apart.  We added another 15 goals and by the end of the game the massacre was over.

These are the sort of games I hate as a Coach, as I believe we learn nothing!
