BOCA   –v-   BUSH HILL RANGERS

1                                              6

  • Today was our first game back after our Christmas break and I reminded the boys that we need to continue to be focused. As the game kicked off Boca adopted a defensive team and were clearly intent not to concede the eleven goals they did the last time they played us.  I was pleased with our attitude and work rate straight from kick off. The boys showed that they could be patient as we passed the ball sweetly. For the first few minutes both teams tried to stamp their authority and tackles were fast and furious. We settled quicker and after a good move Rishi made it 1-0.  We continued to move the ball well and after a four-pass move between Tommy, Rishi and Raphael, the ball was forced home by Raphael to make it 2-0.  Tashan’s pace and movement was causing mayhem, he was beginning to get frustrated with the Boca linesman, who it seemed had his flag ‘on a spring’, but it was only a matter of time before he was rewarded for his hard work and late in the first half, he beat the off-side trap and slotted home to make it 3-0 to Bush Hill at half time.
  • At half time I told the boys that I was pleased with the passion and spirit we were showing, but what pleased me more was that we showed that we could also be patient and by moving the ball well, for most of the first half, we had Boca chasing shadows.

As the second half kicked off it wasn’t long before Rishi sprung the off-side trap again and coolly finished to make it 4-0, not bad for a left winger!  We continued to create chances and after a succession of corners, Tashan had a shot cleared off the line. Most of our good work was created by our hard working midfield with Tommy pulling most of the strings, and mid-way through the second half he was rewarded for his hard work, after the ball dropped to him at the edge of their area, he unleashed a ‘Gerrard-like’ shot, that whistled past their keeper,   5-0 to Bush Hill. With about ten minutes to go, I had a re-shuffle, with Tommy stepping into central defence and Jamel moving forward.  The chances were still flowing for us, and after a delicate pass by Ali, Jamel was bearing down on their goal, it should have been 6-0, unlucky Jamel!  Boca worked the ball into our penalty area, and their striker let fly with a low hard shot, Taylan refused to be beaten, and with a great dive, pushed the ball round the post, out for a corner, one of the best saves I’ve seen for a while. From the corner, the ball was not cleared, and once again it was driven in hard, and after striking one of our players, a penalty was awarded, in my opinion, a sympathetic decision.   Taylan was unlucky not to stop it, after a great dive, 5-1 to Bush Hill.  The response was immediate and with some good vision by Ali, the ball was sprayed out to the left, where James was rampaging down that side.  He kept going, found himself in their area and coolly finished, for his first goal this season, 6-1 to Bush Hill, final score.

Today’s Man Of The Match – Tommy – Power, Aggression, Ability = Gerrard?  No -  Answer = Tommy!
