   SELWYN –v- BUSH HILL RANGERS

0                            11

  • Before kick off I once again reminded the boys that they had a job to do and to continue to be focused. As the game kicked off it wasn’t long before we began to dominate, with our team work, passing and movement, chances came quickly, but somehow Selwyn managed to keep the ball out. With only ten minutes gone, this was already a one-sided affair. Selwyn’s tactics seemed to be, to pack the defence and midfield, and to basically frustrate us.  Bush Hill were awarded a corner and both Alex and Tashan combined well, but once again the ball was cleared for another corner.  The pressure was mounting, this time the ball was swung in and the ball fell to Ali and with his left foot he forced the ball home, 1-0 to Bush Hill.  Straight from the re-start Selwyn had their first attack and were unlucky not to equalise after James cleared the ball off the line.  The combination of Ali’s goal and this wake-up call sparked even more determination from the Bush Hill boys, and after a good cross Alex made it 2-0.  The pressure was relentless, corners were coming thick and fast and the ball seemed to always be in their penalty area.   I lost count how many times we hit the post or the ball was cleared off their line with a last ditch challenge!  Selwyn began to grow in confidence and were making an effort to score, but our defensive unit with Raphael playing right back today, due to illness and injury, stood firm, what pleased me was the way that his team mates were helping and encouraging him throughout the game, and every time he needed to challenge, his confidence was growing.  After an attack by Selwyn, Taylan launched the ball forward, Alex latched onto the ball and drove it past their keeper, 3-0 to Bush Hill.  Moments later, assisted by Rishi, Alex made it 4-0. The floodgates were now open, and Rishi added our fifth after a good run, 5-0 at half time.
  • At half time I just told the boys to continue to do what they were doing.

The second half kicked off and within moments Bush Hill were awarded a corner, and once again the ball was cleared off the line. Selwyn responded with another attack, but with Raphael clearly enjoying himself, his chest out and looking well in command, the chance was soon snuffed out. The ball was worked to our left hand side, for Rishi to finish from a tight angle, 6-0. Then it wasn’t long before Tashan and Rodney combined well, to set up Robin who made it 7-0.  Selwyn never gave up  and once again our defensive unit were called upon and soon cleaned up.  Once again the ball was launched into their penalty area and after it bounced around for a few seconds, Tashan had the last touch as their defender handled the ball over the line, the referee awarded the goal, 8-0 to Bush Hill. It wasn’t long before Rodney, playing only his second game for us after a long spell of injury, made it 9-0. He then combined well with Robin to set up Alex for goal number 10. Selwyn had the ball in our net, but it was ruled off-side.  With seconds to go, Robin drove into their penalty area, he skipped past a couple of challenges, then he was hacked down, penalty to Bush Hill.  Our usual penalty taker, Ali, after consulting with me, allowed Tashan to take the penalty, this once again showed what a team player he is, as he felt that Tashan deserved a goal.  Tashan stepped forward and drove the ball home, final score 11-0 to Bush Hill.

Even though we won 11-0 today, I was pleased with the way the boys showed true team work and spirit, always encouraging each other and working for each other as a team.

Today’s Man Of The Match – Raphael – showing what a versatile player he is, playing out of position for the good of the team!
